Agumbe is a small village located in Shivmoga District of Thirthahalli taluk in the Malnad region of Karnataka. It is known as the Cherrapunji of the South and the rains feed streams, rivers and the many waterfalls here. The dense rainforests of Agumbe are home for several wildlife species.

Rainforest is a dense, wet, tropical evergreen ecosystem, high in its level of biodiversity. According to the 'Champion and Seth' classification, Agumbe is an area of "Southern tropical wet evergreen forests"

Agumbe is best place for Macro Photography, for a variety of subjects like frogs, snakes, scorpions, insects, butterflies.,etc.
